Keche |
Keche, who have been in the music business for more than a decade told Graphic Showbiz that the income musicians get from music is inadequate and most artistes in Ghana rely on multiple sources of revenue in order to live well.
“Here in Ghana. music doesn't pay that much and you need to set up certain businesses so that you can always be on top of your game.
"When it comes to music videos, you need like GH¢70,000 to GH¢80.000 to shoot a very good video. So you can imagine how much you will spend if you want to come out with two or three videos at a time before you even think of promotion. How much do organisers even pay us for shows? Every artiste does something aside music.
“Very soon people are going to know what Keche does aside music but now our focus is 100 per cent on music and 50 per cent on other things that keep supporting us," they said.
Their statement may give the impression that there isn't any money to be made from music but Keche says that’s not their intention.
“We can't say there is nothing in music,it is just that the demand is becoming more strong so people want to go the extra mile to shoot that $100,000 music video.
“In Ghana, our royalties don't support us to have enough money to do all those things. If our royalties had been good, our fans would have enjoyed great things from us. We only pray our digital stores and other royalties we have here will help us to make good money," they added.
Keche used this opportunity to urge all up and coming artistes to take up other ventures to support their music career.
“We would like to tell the young artistes that music is good but they must take time to understand what goes on so they can survive. Most of them want to make that hit song but what goes on after making that hit song is what they don't know. That is why we have some artistes falling as soon as they come into the industry.
“We are telling them to invest immediately music starts to pay off for them." they said.
